Pregnancy Yoga -Why you should try it.

With the Launch of my Online Pregnancy Yoga series, I wanted to pop up a quick Blog with my top reasons why pregnancy yoga is well, simply the best!


Pregnancy yoga offers numerous benefits for expectant mothers, enhancing both physical and emotional well-being. Whether you are a seasoned yogi or have never done yoga before, here are afew great reasons that yoga should be part of your pregnancy journey.


Physical Benefits:

  • Improves Strength and Flexibility: or as I like to say, improves mobility! That’s the ability of your body to move through its natural range of movement with ease.

  • Although we are not necessarily aiming to build strength during pregnancy, staying strong and mobile can alleviate common pregnancy aches and pains, helping improve your comfort throughout your pregnancy and help prepare your body for childbirth.

  • Enhances Balance and Coordination: Yoga supports better balance as the body’s centre of gravity changes throughout pregnancy.

  • Boosts Circulation: Promotes better blood circulation, which can reduce swelling and improve overall energy levels.

  • Understand your body better: Pregnancy changes your body and pregnancy yoga is the perfect way to embrace this change, getting to know your body better now, will improve your body awareness and recovery post-partum.

 

Emotional and Mental Benefits:

  • Reduces Stress and Anxiety: Breathing techniques and meditation help lower stress and anxiety levels and calm the mind in preparation for labour and birth.

  • Promotes Relaxation: Encourages relaxation and mindfulness, which can improve sleep quality and overall mental well-being.

  • Enhances Your Connection with Baby: With life always feeling so busy, yoga is the perfect time to fosters a deeper connection between the mother and her unborn baby through mindful movement and focus. Preparation for Labor: I’ve said this already, but it’s worth repeating!

  • Teaches Breathing Techniques: Breathing exercises learned in yoga can be beneficial during labour for pain management and relaxation.

  • Improved Pelvic Floor Muscle awareness: Note I haven’t said strengthen here! Specific poses can help improve pelvic floor muscles awareness, this is key to teach you how to not only contract your pelvic floor and know how to strength it post-partum, but also so be able to relax your pelvic floor in preparation for labour and giving birth. Overall, pregnancy yoga supports the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of expectant mothers, helping you navigate pregnancy more comfortably and confidently.
